Kāpalama I Ka Pō Mahina hua auana by the Hawaiian Ensemble women

Hundreds turned out to support the fundraiser for the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiian Ensemble and Concert Glee at the 2nd Annual Kāpalama I Ka Pō Mahina at the Kamamalu Courtyard of the KS Elementary Campus.

Concert-goers munched on dinner bentos, bread pudding and Imua brownies while shoppers rummaged through the deals at the Country Store.

The entertainment was also a hit with songs performed by A Touch of Gold, Hōkū Zuttermeister and Natalie Ai Kamauu. The audience were also treated to Maori song and dance from a group of Tolaga Bay School students from Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Hawaiian Ensemble and Chant and Dance students danced more than a dozen hula including kahiko such as “Welina” and “Ho’opuka E Ka Lā” and auana numbers such as “Papalina Lahilahi,” “Ulupalakua,” and “Grandchild.” Natalie Ai Kamauu also sang “Ka Wai Mukiki” and the ensemble women danced.

Click here to see video of the kahiko performance.

Concert Glee and Ensemble students collaborated with song and dance with the number “Bless This Lands.”

Stay tuned for more photos and videos in coming days.
